Item of the Day: American Apparel Chiffon Skirt

The word “Chiffon” is derived from the French for “rag.” It’s hard to believe that this fabric, which has been used on many a ladylike dress or skirt, is really — well, in the case of the American Apparel Chiffon Double-Layered Full Length Skirt pictured here — 100 percent polyester.

Normally, we’re not big fans of synthetic fibers here at M.L.T.S., but the lines and proportion of this full length, slightly poofy skirt. We especially love it paired with a bandeau top. We do declare it may be the perfect beach cover-up, but also believe it would look wholly sophisticated paired with a sleeveless button-up shirt, scarf headband and strappy heels. The skirt comes in nine different colors, of which our favorites are the Port (red), Blonde, and Camel colors, and costs $58. – Rosella Eleanor LaFevre
