M.L.T.S. Blogger Heather Polchin shares her take on Bridesmaids, the new female comedy from the producers of The Hangover.
I’m as big a fan of The Hangover as the next person, but sometimes you need a good comedy not filled with dirty guy humor. So what comes in to fill its void? Dirty female humor.
The new film Bridesmaids, starring Kristen Wiig and Maya Rudolph, take the over-the-top humor from the some of the best testosterone filled comedies and replaces it with the same over-the-top humor from a ladies point of view. And I am okay with that. Maybe more than okay. Rather than take a story and tailor it to fit what would be considered a normal chick flick, this film proves that women can do anything guys can do. Especially tell jokes unsuitable for the dinner table.
The story centers around Annie played by Kristen Wiig (who also co-wrote the script), an unlucky-in-love woman with little success in her life. After discovering her best friend is engaged, she enters into a ridiculous competition with one of the other bridesmaids who she feels is threatening her maid of honor title.
Hilarity ensues as Kristen Wiig’s character finds herself in one bad situation after another. If comedies with witty dialog, a little crudeness, and ridiculous situations are your thing then you’ll want to head to the nearest theater immediately. The stars of this film prove that there is room for more than one Tina Fey in Hollywood and I look forward to what they come up with next.
