How To Choose A Watermelon

Watermelon is my favorite food in the whole world,  but choosing the right one can be a confusing and frustrating process. Here are some helpful tips for choosing the juiciest, most succulent melon in the store.

Characteristics to look for

Dull (not shiny)

Uniform shape

Field spot (the creamy patch where the watermelon rest on on the ground)

  • The deeper in color, the longer the fully grown melon was on the vine getting sweet.
  • Yellow <white<no patch at all

Helpful Tricks

The lifting test…It should feel heavy when you pick it up when compared with one of a similar size

The listening testtap on the watermelon with your knuckles. Look for a sound more like a tenor than a bass, so you can ensure you’re not getting a hollow melon

Good luck, soldiers. I followed these rules today, and am quite satisfied with the watermelon that I am currently enjoying.
